# Prepare Ignition Gateway

Kanoa MES requires an Ignition Gateway with the **Perspective** module available.

If you already have an Ignition Gateway installed and ready to go, you can skip to the next step. If not, install Ignition first.

:::caution
KanoaMES supports sites in multiple timezones, but this requires that both the database and gateway servers **MUST** be set to UTC timezone
to eliminate issues arising from daylight savings.

### Step 1 - Install Ignition

Follow Inductive Automation’s installation documentation:

- [Installing and Upgrading (Ignition 8.1)](https://www.docs.inductiveautomation.com/docs/8.1/getting-started/installing-and-upgrading)
- [Installing and Upgrading (Ignition 8.3)](https://www.docs.inductiveautomation.com/docs/8.3/getting-started/installing-and-upgrading)

This guide assumes a fresh installation, but it does not have to be. You can install Kanoa on an existing Ignition system as well.

### Step 2 - Ensure Perspective is available

Kanoa MES requires **Ignition Perspective**. Confirm Perspective is installed and licensed on the Gateway before proceeding.

:::caution
If you are setting up this gateway to follow along with our self-paced training course, you'll also need to install Ignition's WebDev module.
